Managing clusters
The cluster list
Section titled “The cluster list”Clusters shows every cluster in the account you are currently viewing, with its region, Kubernetes version, status and estimated monthly cost.
The status column mirrors the API:
| Badge | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
provisioning |
Being built. | Wait — it becomes running on its own. |
running |
Healthy and serving. | Nothing. |
shutdown |
Intentionally stopped. | Start it, or delete it if unused. |
error |
Provisioning or runtime failure. | Contact support. |
Use search to filter by name, and the status filter to hide clusters you do not care about.
Creating a cluster
Section titled “Creating a cluster”Create cluster asks for:
- Region — where the cluster physically runs. Cannot be changed later.
- Name — lowercase letters, digits and hyphens. Checked for availability as you type.
- Kubernetes version — defaults to the region’s current default.
- Initial pool — the size and node count of the first node pool.
The estimated monthly cost updates as you change the pool. Confirming starts
provisioning; the cluster appears in the list immediately as provisioning.
The cluster detail view
Section titled “The cluster detail view”Opening a cluster gives you:
- Overview — status, endpoint, version, region, current and projected spend.
- Pools — the node pools, and controls to scale or add them.
- Nodes — individual machines and their health.
- Domains — custom hostnames attached to the cluster’s ingress.
- Credentials — kubeconfigs. See Connecting with kubectl.
Scaling
Section titled “Scaling”Scale by changing a pool’s node count rather than adding nodes directly. New nodes join the cluster and start accepting work automatically; removed nodes are drained first.
Add a second pool when you need a different machine size — for example a small pool for web traffic and a large one for batch jobs.
Deleting
Section titled “Deleting”… → Delete destroys the cluster and every node in it. You are asked to type the cluster name to confirm.
Each cluster shows two figures:
- Current spending — accrued so far this billing period.
- Estimated price / month — projection if the cluster stays its current size for a full month.
Changing pool sizes changes the projection immediately; the accrued figure catches up as usage is metered.
